Join me and my friends on the lawn at Chapman School for a spectacular display of Vaux’s Swifts as they gather to roost in the school’s chimney.
RSVP anytime by replying to this post before the event and we’ll tell you how to find us.
Swifts are insect eating birds that migrate south each fall. At sunset during migration they choose a place where dozens to thousands of birds can roost (sleep). Since the late 1980’s the Chapman chimney has been one of these roosting sites.
This is a free event and open to everyone!
Bring a blanket, low chairs, picnic, beverages and your camera.
Volunteers from Portland Audubon will be present with information about the swifts, binoculars and a spotting scope for viewing.
(If you’re unable to attend, this is an event that occurs annually every night throughout the month of September)
See you there!
